Costa Rican motorists face the highest gasoline prices in Central America

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Costa Ricans face the highest fuel charges in all of Central America.

On average, consumers pay $1 more per gallon of super or regular gasoline in nations such as Panama. The difference in diesel is about 90 US cents.

The reason is the relatively high level of taxes imposed in Costa Rica. Taxes amount to about half of the total price of fuel.
