Costa Rican pineapple industry to grow 10 percent

Monday, October 8, 2012

In just ten years, the pineapple volumes exported by Costa Rica to international markets have quadrupled, as well as the revenue generated; a trend that will continue for some time.

This is one of the few crops, along with coffee and bananas, of which large volumes are exported. In the case of pineapples, there are also prospects for a steady growth.

For the National Chamber of Pineapple Exporters and Producers (Canapep), expectations for 2012 include maintaining growth in exports between 8 and 10 percent, being efficient in planting schedules, maintaining seed quality and meeting environmental and social regulations.
