Costa Rican president Chinchilla heading for China in wake of free trade accord

The day after signing the free trade agreement with China, Costa Rica's president, Laura Chinchilla, announced she will be visiting China next month.

This will be the second trip by a Costa Rican president to China since Costa Rica severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan in preference to Beijing.

China is Costa Rica's second largest trading partner behind the United States.
