Costa Rican regulator slaps fine on state power firm

Friday, May 29, 2015

Costa Rica’s telecoms regulator, Sutel, slapped the state electricity company, ICE, with a $4 million fine for unfair competition carried out on two separate occasions in 2011 and 2012.

The fine is equivalent to 0.58 percent of ICE’s mobile services brand’s gross income during the fiscal year prior to the anti-competitive practices, which Sutel called “a very serious infringement.”
