Costa Ricans are happiest

On a global basis, Costa Ricans are a little less happy than they were last year, mainly due to a a lower score in perceived corruption.

But “ticos” still placed first in the region in the perception of progress, health and well-being, according to the 2016 World Happiness Report.

With a score of 7,08 out of ten, Costa Rica ranked 16th, compared to 14th in 2015.

Panama, ranked 25th worldwide, is second in Central America.

The global leader in happiness is Denmark, while Burundi is last among 157 countries.

GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, and freedom to make choices are also evaluated (numbers in brackets shows the position of each country in the global ranking).
