Crime hits Guatemala's agriculture businesses

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Guatemala's agriculture industry chamber, known as Camagro, has reported an increase on crime towards agricultural workers and businesses.

Each year, companies in the sector invest some $300 million in private security, which represents up to 16 percent of their budget, said the president of the chamber, José Santiago Molina.

Some of the sub-sectors which have reported cases to the government are rubber, sugar, palm oil and banana.
