Crisis 'has cost Nicaragua $1.3 billion'

Friday, December 14, 2018

The political protests and their repression that began in April have now cost the nation some $1.3 billion, according to the leading business organization, the Cosep.

That amounts to 10 percent of GDP and has cost 400,000 jobs, said Cosep leader José Adán Aguerri.

The impact is particularly severe for a country that has been growing for seven years at an annual rate of $5 percent growth. "What we built in seven years has been lost in seven months," said Aguerri
