Current projects to continue ahead under Costa Rica’s open-pit mining ban

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

The partial reform to Costa Rica's mining law that prohibits open-pit mining of metals will not affect current projects, said Francisco Castro director of the geology and mines service.

Castro said that the law is not retroactive, so companies that have concessions will continue with their projects.

Any concessions that are still in the process of being granted will have to be shelved once the law comes into effect.
