Death toll in Guatemala quake surges to 48

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Guatemala's Pacific coast Wednesday morning, killing at least 48 people and injuring some 150.

The quake was also felt in the neighboring countries of Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras.

San Marcos was the city with most damage, where local authorities reported the total destruction of 30 buildings and 40 deaths. It also damaged some of the country's highways, including the Inter-American Route.
