Wind energy developer Blue Power & Energy has awarded Vestas Wind Systems with the 39.6 megawatt order for the La Fé–San Martín wind power project near Nicaragua’s eastern coast, the first for the Denmark-based wind turbine producer.

Vestas will supply and commission 22 V90-1.8-megawatt turbines as well as a Scada system.

Nicaragua currently has a wind-based power capacity of 40 megawatts. The new addition is expected to produce typically 150GWh annually as well as avoiding 29,400 tons of CO2 emissions when compared with the country’s traditional power supply.
