Despite problems, Costa Rican tourism heads for more growth

Friday, March 29, 2019

Tourism in Costa Rica faces many challenges. These include the poor quality of the country's roads, the absence of clear rules on the use of such apps as Airbnb, problems with adventure activities and security, in addition to the imposition of value-added tax o the tourism sector.

However, tourism is expecting good results this year, thanks to a favorable exchange rate, a growth in airline connections, the extension of the Oduber airport in Liberia, as well as hotel developments, especially in Guanacaste.

In terms of airline connections, Costa Rica has eight links with Europe, compared with only one in 2014. Last year, eight airlines increased their connections from the United States, Canada and Mexico, La República reports in Spanish.
