Dollar shops are booming in El Salvador as consumers face difficult times

The aftermath of the world economic crisis and high living costs have squeezed the budgets of households all over El Salvador.

With that as the background, what are known as dollar stores -- shops with low-cost items in fixed amounts of the US currency -- are booming.

The pioneer of dollar stores is Dollar City but the leading supermarket chain Súper Selectos has introduced dollar shops within its stores.
