Doubts arise over $500 million Monkey Point port plan announced by Korean firms

Monday, July 12, 2010

Last week the government of Nicaragua signed a memorandum of understanding with two Korean companies on a $500 million project to build a port at Monkey Point on the Atlantic coast.

But the announcement has caused considerable surprise, not least because nobody seems to know the companies concerned.

The mystery has deepened because so little information has been presented on the project. Nor has the National Assembly been informed about what would be a major investment.
