Ecopetrol to help Colombia reduce emissions

Thursday, April 10, 2014

Colombian environmental bodies and state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol unveiled seven joint initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse-gas emissions caused by deforestation and forest degradation.

The project, led by Ecopetrol, Natural National Parks of Colombia and the Natura Foundation, will be carried out at reserves, national parks, buffer zones and rural areas of the northern provinces of Antioquia, Santander, Norte de Santander and Boyaca.

The goal is to lower carbon-dioxide emissions by 220,000 tons, plant 990 hectares of forest systems and avoid the degradation of at least 2,000 hectares of forest.
