El Salvador brings in armed forces to reinforce security against crime wave

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

El Salvador's government says it will reinforce security by using the military to police the country's most violent areas.

Since Mauricio Funes became the president of El Salvador, he has expanded the army by some 57 percent, and has periodically deployed the military to the streets to share policing duties.

Funes' justification for the move is that the country's deteriorating security situation requires a more forceful approach.
