El Salvador-Costa Rica ferry to begin in January

A ferry between El Salvador's La Unión port and Costa Rica's Caldera terminal will likely begin operations in January next year, said Carlos López Barrundia, representative of Spain's Naviera de Odiel the firm interested in managing the project.

"It will begin on January 15th, as the Costa Rican government has committed to finishing by that date the refurbishing of Caldera port in order to receive the ferry," López said.

La Unión-Caldera is the second route to be analyzed, as originally the project was to connect La Unión and Nicaragua's Puerto Corinto, but the permit procedures are still ongoing in Nicaragua.
