El Salvador expects boom year for coffee exports after 2009-2010 slump

El Salvador’s coffee exports fell by 25 percent in the first 11 months of the current crop cycle compared with a year earlier, while income dropped by 16 percent.

Germany bought 36 percent of El Salvador’s coffee exports, followed by the United States at 27 percent.

The new 2010-2011 harvest is expected to be much higher than the current one. Producers claim the increase will be as much as 43 percent.
