El Salvador faces lawsuit at SIECA

Guatemala and Honduras have announced their intentions to take El Salvador to court with the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration, SIECA, over the problems caused by the $18 fee for cargo transport vehicles in its borders.

Some $60 million are lost each day due to the delays and issues at the Salvadoran border crossings, Guatemalan Minister of Economy Sergio de la Torre said.

El Salvador agreed yesterday to suspend the fee, after which transport workers blocking Salvadoran borders in protest started to clear access.
