El Salvador gives signs of economic recession

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

El Salvador's economic performance last year indicate the country could be going into a recession, analyst Luis Membreño said.

The country's economic activity index grew 1.4 percent, however, exports, tax collection and domestic trade all dropped in January this year.

El Salvador's public debt has also grown, as well as government expenditure and financial sector credit, all of which indicate "we are entering a recession," Membreño said.
