Monday, July 2, 2018

El Salvador is the Central American nation with the highest percentage of informal homes, according to the Incae report “Living in Central America”.

El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras each report housing deficits that exceed 1 million units, while the figure in Costa Rica barely exceeds 300,000.

In 2015, 7.5 million Central Americans out of a total population of 44 million lived in informal homes or slums.

The study is based on studies of need for new homes and for home repairs or improvements (numbers in brackets indicate percentage of housing deficits in each nation; Nicaragua was not included in the study).

1 El Salvador (91)

2 Guatemala (90)

3 Honduras (60)

4 Panama (54)

5 Costa Rica (22)
