El Salvador: Helping companies improve workplace safety
Monday, June 25, 2012
Various consultants could find a flourishing opportunity, helping businesses in El Salvador deal with extensive changes to rules, intended to improve workplace safety.
Part of the problem is technical, as employers are now required to develop program to evaluate and reduce workplace risks, in each area of employment.
In addition, there will be administrative issues, as companies now need to appoint prevention committees, with representation from both management and labor.
Companies in most cases will have to take he new rules seriously, since fines for noncompliance are significant – as much as $4,400 for what are considered serious infractions, compared with a maximum of $55 under the old system.
The new rules have been in effect since last May 1.
