El Salvador hopes for stand-by accord from Fund

Thursday, August 9, 2012

The government of El Salvador continues to hope that the International Monetary Fund will approve the new targets for its stand-by accord, said the president of the central bank, Carlos Acevedo.

Acevedo confirmed that there has been no firm reply so far, but talks continue on the fiscal targets for next year.

The government has asked the Fund to give it a bit of room in view of the problems facing the economy, said Acevedo.
