El Salvador invests $818 million to fight poverty

El Salvador will invest $818 million in social programs this year, some 3.6 percent of its gross domestic product.
Investment in social programs will be increased from last year, a record. Last year El Salvador received more than $300 million in international aid for social projects.
More than 2 million people in El Salvador live in poverty. They account for aboiut one third of the population.
