El Salvador is losing some $500 million a year in private investment, according to economist Mauricio Choussy.
The main reasons for the losses are a climate of distrust in business and a complex internal financial system.
The figure means the country has lost some $4 billion over the last four years, which could have helped create some 150,000 jobs.
