El Salvador plans tourism policy upgrade

El Salvador's Ministry for Tourism is planning to start upgrading its national tourism policy.

The initiative seeks to generate new strategies which would boost tourism and improve competitiveness in the sector, according to Robert Viera, director of El Salvador's tourism chamber.

Viera pointed out the importance of tourism for El Salvador's economy, adding that in 2012 visitors spent $771 million, a historic amount in the last decade for the country.
