El Salvador regulator snub's Slim's offer for Digicel

Friday, September 28, 2012

El Salvador's telecommunications regulator, SC, rejected an offer by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, to acquire the Salvadoran operations
of Ireland's Digicel.

The offer would merge Carlos Slim's company, América Móvil, and Digicel's operations, a move considered unfair for the country's
telecommunications industry, the SC said.

It is the second time América Móvil tries to acquire Digicel's operations in Central America, after rejecting conditions proposed in the first attempt by the SC in December 2011.
