El Salvador responds to Pacific Rim with claim that company abused Cafta rules

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

El Salvador presented a series of objections to the International Center for the Resolution of Investment Disputes in the case involving Canadian miner Pacific Rim.

Lawyers for El Salvador say that Pacific Rim has changed its nationality in order to reap the benefits of the Cafta free trade agreement between the United States and Central America.

Pacific Rim, the plea claims, has abused the process by moving from the Cayman Islands to the state of Nevada, three years after generating the conflict with El Salvador.
