El Salvador's coffee exports plummet 24 percent

El Salvador's coffee exports totalled $5.4 million in October this year, the first month of the new 2013-2014 harvest.

The amount is 24 percent less than the beginning of the previous harvest, according to the country's coffee council.

Coffee rust is expected to hit 50 percent of this year's production, said the country's coffee association.
