El Salvador's seaports all adrift with a $200 million white elephant of La Unión

Monday, January 23, 2012

Millions of dollars were spent fruitlessy on feasability studies for seaports in El Salvador over the last decade.

The La Unión $200 million mega-port has been sliding into decay since the day it was opened.

Companies that provide shipping, logistics and port services say that El Salvador has lost competitiveness in the region. Worst of all, there seems to be no end in sight for the the problems faced by La Unión and neighboring Acajutla, which is now full to bursting.
