El Salvador seeks new telecoms investors

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

El Salvador's government is seeking new investors in the country's mobile services industry through a tender for 40MHz of spectrum, according to a release by electricity and telecommunications regulator Siget.

The government is aiming to stimulate development and competition in the mobile services market, as well as increase internet penetration in the country, Siget said.

The number of mobile lines in the country reached 8.6 million at the end of the third quarter of 2012, amounting to a penetration of considerably more than 100 percent of the population.
