El Salvador to lose 102,000 coffee jobs

Monday, August 26, 2013

El Salvador's coffee industry is set to lose some 102,000 jobs during the current harvest, according to data from the Salvadoran Foundation for Social and Economic Development, Funades.

The loss of mostly seasonal jobs comes at a time the sector is going through what growers have called a crisis.

The country's coffee institute estimates some 74 percent of the nation's coffee plantations have been affected by coffee rust fungus.
