El Salvador wants special zone to lure investors

Wednesday, July 4, 2018

El Salvador's government has called for the creation of a special economic zone along the nation's eastern coast strip.

A bill to establish the zone has been sent to Congress for approval. Both imports and exports will be free of all taxes and duties, according to government spokesmen.

But by difference with similar projects that have failed to live up to expectations both in El Salvador and Honduras, all existing property rights will be respected, and there is no question of any cession of national sovereignty, they added.
