El Salvador wins battle in war with mining companies

El Salvador won the first battle in its war with international mining companies.

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes rejected a demand by US-based Commerce Group on the grounds that the dispute was not within the Terms of Cafta.

Commerce Group had argued that el Salvador broke Cafta rules by rejecting the company’s request to extend a mining concession.
