Extortion hits small companies in El Salvador

Small and medium companies in El Salvador pay some $18 million each year in extortion to criminal groups.

Eighty-four percent of the country's small and medium enterprises are victims of extortion, El Salvador's national council for small companies said.

Extortion is also the crime that most affects the small enterprise sector in the country, according to the Salvadoran trade and industry chamber.
