Farmers launch nationwide strike in Colombia
Monday, April 28, 2014
Small farmers have launched a nationwide strike in Colombia less than a month before the presidential election.
They accuse the government of failing to adhere to agreements reached after a violent work stoppage last year.
The strike will continue indefinitely until the government of President Juan Manuel Santos helps resolve problems that include the farmers' debts of more than $1 billion, said Cesar Pachon, spokesman for the farmers of the central region of Boyaca.
