FDA puts Honduras's Ibermar on red list

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA, put Honduran packaging firm Ibermar on its red list after finding salmonella on shrimp processed in its plant.

Shrimp farming has grown in the last two years but without government control, as many projects start operating without environmental licenses.

The expansion of shrimp farms in reserved areas has alerted the Honduran aquaculture association, as they harvest shrimp for local and international markets without following required standards and procedures.
