Fifty banks join payments system for easy instant transfers throughout the region. Costa Rica stays on the sidelines

A total of 51 banks from Central America and the Dominican Republic have joined together to form a regional payments system.

The system will allow clients rapid electronic transfers of funds at low cost and in a secure fashion, according to the Central American Integration System.

The transactions will be in dollars. All the banks in the region will take part, except for those of Costa Rica.
