Finland ends development cooperation with Nicaragua to place priority on rights

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Finland is planning to end its development cooperation with Nicaragua by no later than early March this year.

In recent years, aid to Nicaragua has comprised around $13 million of Finland's annual development cooperation budget of approximately $1.3 billion.

The decision to end the aid is part of a new development policy program aimed at raising human rights to centre stage in its development cooperation.
