Fiscal specter of the Eighties looms over Costa Rica

Some 28 years ago, a fiscal deficit of 7.2 percent of GDP launched a catastrophic financial crisis in Costa Rica.

Current projections point to a deficit of more than 7 percent of GDP. History appears to be repeating itself, but whether as comedy or farce remains to be seen.
