Foreign capital floods into Costa Rica
Friday, January 11, 2013
After a first wave of foreign investors that put their money into Costa Rican bonds in December, the festive season was followed by a second wave.
By means of global depositary notes, a new instrument for Costa Rica, the investors used dollars to snap up local bonds issued by the Finance Ministry and denominated in local currency.
This most recent transaction put pressure on the central bank to buy millions of dollars.
