Foreign companies boost investment and jobs in Costa Rica

Some 16 foreign companies launched operations or reinvested in Costa Rica this year through June, spending more than $100 million in capital and 2,000 jobs. Most of them were in the sector of life sciences.

In addition two major investments were announced in the first half of the year.. UK-based Inchcape announced the $284 million acquisition of Grupo Rudelman's Suzuki concession, and Liberty Latin America paid $200 million Televisora de Costa Rica for 80 percent of Cabletica.

Last year was a historic one for foreign investment in Costa Rica, with 40 companies investing almost $3 billion.
