Funes is Central America’s most popular president

The president of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes, has the highest approval rating, at 57 percent, of the region’s leaders, according to a Cid-Gallup poll. Guatemala’s Alvaro Colom was the least popular at 17 percent.

The poll covered all of Central America and the Dominican Republic. In second place was Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega with 43 percent.

Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica came in third with 34 percent approval, followed by Porfirio Lobo of Honduras, at 26 percent and Ricardo Martinelli, 23 percent.
