Gates backs Central America malaria fight with $31 million

Philanthropist Bill Gates promised $31 million as part of a new Central America malaria elimination fund aimed at wiping out the disease in seven of the region’s countries and the Dominican Republic.

In a joint plan with the Inter-American Development Bank and the Carlos Slim Foundation, Gates said the Regional Malaria Elimination Initiative would bring a total of $83.6 million in new funds.
