Gold from Petaquilla mine boosts Panama into trade surplus with Canada

For the first time, Panama has a positive trade surplus with Canada following the opening of the the Petaquilla gold mine in Colón.
During the first half of the year, exports to Canada totaled $37.4 million, while imports were $29.1 million.
Panama exported $33 million worth of gold to Canada in the first six months of the year. Without that, Panama would have had its usual trade deficit with Canada.
