Guatemala aims for high-tech boost to tourism

Guatemala will turn to the Internet as a tool to increase tourism by 3.5 percent this year, the country's tourism authority, Inguat, said.

The aim of the project is to use the Internet to establish Guatemala as a world class tourism destination, said Pedro Duchez, director of Inguat.

Last year, tourism generated $1.48 billion in Guatemala, boosted by the celebration of the Mayan Baktún 13 on December 21.
