Guatemala appoints new finance minister to heal Cabinet rift over budget

Monday, November 15, 2010

Alvaro Colom, the Guatemalan president, swore in Alfredo Rolando Del Cid Pinillos as the new finance minister in place of Édgar Balsells, who was dismissed in an effort to “promote harmony in the Cabinet”.

Del Cid was the manager of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute, where he was appointed to remedy shortages in supplies of medicines and other supplies. With Balsells having been removed, Colom appears to have cleared the way for the upcoming budget in Congress.
