Guatemala boosts public works in bid to be competitive

Guatemala's government is aiming to make the economy more competitive with an ambitious program of public works.

The projects include roads to link the borders between Mexico and El Salvador, broadening of the Atlantic Highway, reactivation of a stretch of railroad and an expansion of the electricity grid.

However, the ministry of Communications will have to present Congress with approval for the financial plans for the projects.
