Guatemala cargo movement grows 9 percent

Guatemalan ports handled 9 percent more cargo in the the first half of the year, compared with the same period in 2013, the country's port authority, CPN, said.

During that period, Guatemalan ports handled 11.89 million tons of cargo, while in the same period last year the figure was 10.87 million tons.

The port of Quetzal handled the most cargo in the period, with 5.3 million tons, or 45 percent, followed by Santo Tomás de Castilla, with 3.8 million tons and Puerto Barrios, with 1.66 million tons.
