Guatemala coffee exports fall 0.3 pct this season amid record international prices

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

Guatemala closed its 2009-2010 coffee harvest with 3.44 million 60-kg bags of exports, 0.3 percent down from the same cycle as the previous season.

Global supplies of high-quality arabica beans like those grown in Guatemala are tight ahead of the next harvest, helping to push prices to record highs.

In September, Guatemala exported 199,355 60-kg bags of coffee, a 41 percent jump from the same month last year.
