Guatemala culture accounts for 9 percent economy

Guatemala's music, cinema, dance industries, among other cultural activities, account for 9 percent of the country's economy.

The figure comparable to exports or remittances, which account for 10 percent of Guatemala's gross domestic product.

Economist Mario Alberto García Lara says culture represents a large section of the economy, however, the country is still not fully aware of its potential.
